Known as "California's Most Beautiful Fairgrounds," the Nevada County Fairgrounds spreads across a pine-shaded property directly beside Grass Valley RV Resort. If you're coming for a fairgrounds event, it's hard to camp closer — full-hookup sites within walking distance of the gates, no parking lines, and your own rig to come back to between sessions.

The Fairgrounds Event Calendar

Nevada County Fair (August)

The county's biggest week of the year: carnival rides under the pines, livestock shows, live music, fair food, and destruction derby nights. Staying next door means you can walk over for a morning session, come back to the resort pool during the afternoon heat, and return for the evening shows.

Draft Horse Classic (September)

One of the premier draft horse shows in the West — six performances of driving, hitch classes, and log skidding, plus a harvest fair. Horse trailers and RVs pour in for this weekend; a site next door beats commuting from out of town.

Father's Day Bluegrass Festival (June)

The California Bluegrass Association's flagship festival brings four days of national bluegrass acts and round-the-clock campground picking to the fairgrounds each June. If you want full hookups and a hot shower instead of dry camping in the festival lots, the resort is the closest option there is.

Country Christmas Faire (late November)

A juried craft faire that fills the fairgrounds' halls with local makers, food vendors, and holiday lights over Thanksgiving weekend — a cozy off-season reason to visit, when the resort is quiet and downtown's Cornish Christmas is about to begin.

Year-Round Shows & Swap Meets

Between the marquee events, the fairgrounds hosts home and garden shows, gun shows, quilt shows, car swap meets, and community fundraisers most weekends of the year. Check the fairgrounds calendar against your travel dates — there's usually something on.

Tips for Event Weekends

Book early. For the Nevada County Fair, the Draft Horse Classic, and the bluegrass festival, our sites nearest the main entrance go first — guests can walk to the gates in minutes. If you're bringing a big rig plus a tow vehicle, a Premium Pull-Through site makes event-week arrivals and departures painless.

Event weeks are also the best argument for full hookups: after a long fair day you get your own bathroom, air conditioning, and a heated pool and spa, instead of dry camping in a festival lot.

A few logistics that help: check the fairgrounds' official calendar and ticketing before you travel, since dates and gate times vary year to year. Summer events mean warm afternoons — plan fair visits for mornings and evenings and use the resort pool in between. And if your event involves a trailer full of gear or animals, call the front desk when you book; we'll help match you to a site with the easiest access for your setup.

Between Events: The Resort Itself

Don't treat the resort as just a parking spot. The 4,500 sq ft lodge with The Market covers forgotten essentials and morning coffee, the heated pool and spa reset tired legs, and the pickleball and bocce courts fill the gap between an afternoon session and an evening concert. Free WiFi across all 148 paved sites means you can share fair photos — or get a little work done — without hunting for a signal.

More Than the Fairgrounds

Even on event trips, save a half day for the area: historic downtown Grass Valley is five minutes away, Empire Mine State Historic Park about ten, and Nevada City's Victorian streets fifteen. Our nearby attractions guide maps out the full Gold Country lineup.
